Collection: Boucherouite

Boucherouite rug (or boucharouette) represent the expression of the Moroccan rural art. They are entirely made from recycled fabrics or, sometimes, wool. The base material is carefully selected by women. Subsequently, these elements are woven and sewn together by hand with no set pattern. The result is a beautiful patchwork of patterns and colors. Each piece produced is unique and special.

Exclusively created by women, these carpets escape the codes and communal signs which govern the patterns of traditional carpets; this make them very personal creations, even though the loom invites some occasional input from neighbours.

With the geometrical signs, often revisited in their shape according to the imagination (diamond for the fertilization or the eye protecting evil spells, square or rectangle for the house or the field, zigzag lines for the community of men or the river), and the colors (red for the woman, yellow for the man, white for the mourning, blue for love, or green for the paradise), they can tell stories, memories of their life.
